The #Text-a-Toast has humble beginnings.
BITD (that’s back in the day) buddies in the bar business who were traveling all over the country would call each other in different towns, taking a quick break from the crazy that was a usual cocktail or dinner rush, for what we used to call the Dial-a-shot. We would keep connected by calling when we were all busy, tell them we loved them and missed them, then take a shot together on the phone, laugh for a second, and go back to work.
With better technology comes the ability to adapt the dial-a-shot into the text-a-toast, taking a simple picture of what you’re drinking and sending it to others via whatever medium you choose, simply to share a virtual drink, tell them you love them, miss them, and are thinking of them. As an ancillary benefit, the text-a-toast allows the group to share wine tips and reviews, mixology updates, beer choices, and it gives the budding photographer a chance to work on their cocktail porn.
It is with this short bartender story that I present to you the #textatoast. Please share. Make it a habit. Tell someone you’re thinking of them and be together, even when you’re not.
In the spirit of the times, I present to you text-a-toast examples from the recent past.
Cheers! Clink.
